A Comb?

Each Sort-Glide tier provides 50 one inch, vertical separations, (models are available with one, two, or three tiers). Unlike standard pigeonhole systems, the Sort-Glide provides order to your mail with all of its flexible separation dividers in place . . . just like a comb.

Since sorted mail is automatically pulled from all 50 separations in one motion, mail from adjacent separations automatically ends up in the same bundle. Thus, to handle destinations which receive a large volume of mail a label can be made to cover any number of adjacent separations.

Individual destination bundles are kept separate by putting "Tab Dividers" into the comb at each mail stop division before mail is sorted. When the drawer is pulled these tab cards are used to separate mail when scooped up, or they function like a hanging file folder as mail is delivered on the route.

There are two big advantages to the comb concept. First it provides outstanding versatility. The same Sort-Glide unit can be used for different address groups, mail volumes, or different tasks altogether by simply changing labels. Second, the high density of sorting separations allows sorting to greater detail at an earlier stage in the sorting process.  The resulting collated bundle improves the efficiency of, and in some cases eliminates later sorting steps.
